Heard the RCO small enesemble last nite playing Mozart & Mendelssohn @SubCulture but the full force is required to deliver the magic & emotional intrigue evoked by Dutilleux here in his epic L’Arbre des songes. Check what Tom Service says about this piece: “If you listen to [the] Violin Concerto, L’arbre des songes (the tree of dreams), you’ll hear a rarefied, epicurean beauty that seems to exalt in its fluency and self-contained world of musical coherence.” Indeed!
